Who would have expected that one of the best horror movies of the year will come from the subclass of Natural Horror and specifically by sharks? It is true that good horror films with its impressive sarcophagi our friends we meet very rarely (The Reef, Open Water) and Steven Spielberg's diamond named ' Jaws ' was not and will never have a rival. This desperate situation comes to somewhat improve the amazing "The Shallows" by Jaume Collet-Serra (Director of Orphan) being an unexpectedly dynamic and necessary addition to horror films with sharks.
After the necessary acquaintance with the magnificent setting of the secluded beach and without much delay, the heroine Nancy (Blake Lively) accept the near-fatal attack by a great white shark during surfing and tries to find refuge in anything that floats. Either is rolled, or buoy, or whale carcass … enough holding even a few centimeters above sea level.
The Nancy must fight for her life coping over the shark and existing wounds that get worse as well as other important factors such as the night cold, hot sun, the physical exhaustion and readily understood each other. Chances to come help the unknown this beach is restricted so the hapless our heroine can hope only to those (few) have seen there.
The original title of the film was "In The Deep" and his script was included on the Blacklist of 2014, i.e. in scenarios that were not Favorites movies then.
Credit must be given to the great directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who is largely responsible for the striking image of "The Shallows". Intelligent and detailed shots above and below the water are used to enhance the sense of threat and get anxiety soared. Ideas such as shark attack victim in which the viewer sees but is invited to imagine through the shocked look of actress and later by the status of the victim who finally see absent shark anymore, confirm the extended Director's inspiration in this work.
Good ideas generally abound. Nancy's attempt to psychologically ntoparei herself with monologues time nursed her wounds moves. Her attempt to protect herself from the shark in the bars of the buoy cage refers us Mariner from "JAWS" being a welcome tribute to Spielberg's masterpiece. The presentation of the savage face of nature through shark and the serene face through sympathetic Gull Company makes the heroine on the other hand, is done with mastery. Even the naming of Gull from Nancy with reference to the Steven Seagal Karateka works perfectly as a short humorous break inside the turbine tragic events.
If "The Shallows" shunned "choligoyntikoy" type scenes toward the finish, replacing them with more realistic ideas, may be approaching toward the ceiling of perfection. Fortunately, the few excesses at various points are digested easily and do not reduce the feeling of deep satisfaction that is overwhelming in the end. Don't miss it!

Intelligent direction, imposing and beautiful photography, excellent interpretation from Blake Lively, rich action and suspense.
The "choligoyntopoiisi" of the film for the finale and a few non-believable scenes towards the end but earlier.
