There's something wrong with Esther / Can you keep a secret?
To a relatively fresh idea to modern horror scene. Ok the "Orphan" may not be the most impressive thrillers of recent years, but definitely guaranteed entertainment film moments with plenty of suspense and a surprise finale for which we can safely draw the hat.
A husband and wife who has not been definitively overcome the shock of the death of the unborn child still adopts an adorable (at least seemingly) and intelligent little girl. Although the past of the orphan girl is not fully established, little Esther welcomed in her new home of the couple, the little deaf daughter but not from the slightly larger son whom freaking. Nice Esther despite the Eastern European origin knows surprisingly fluent English, has good handling of language, thinking and profundity … hidden talent on the piano.
Soon the smoothness in the life of the family is interrupted by a series of mysterious ' hits ' nasty character in which the orphaned chick is always present. A schoolmate of Esther is injured falling from a slide, the nun who gave Esther in the family is murdered on the asphalt near the family home, etc. The mother who first suspects the bizarre and dangerous character of Esther tries to convince her husband to get rid of warning of the approaching danger, yet unsettled, alcoholic past doesn't make it believable. Thus, the adopted elfin finds fertile ground to hurt even more family members.
Due to reactions from parents of adopted children and relevant organisations, producers of "Orphan" were forced to change one of the catchphrases of the trailer. Specifically the "It must be difficult to love an adopted child as much as your own" changed to "I don't think Mommy likes me very much." Indeed there is a message in favor of adoptions on DVD before the start of the film.
Horror movies with impish children (metaphysically or metaphorically) are certainly not fresh fruit in horror cinema. The malicious acts of Esther follow familiar patterns we have seen in films like "The Good Son" (1993) for example. The monumental innovation lies in explaining the identity of Esther to the end. I dare say that this idea is among the best of the last 10 years in the thriller/horror and without this "Orphan" would be a typical movie with evil child. Luckily for us, doing this minimum step above winning our appreciation. From then on he has weaknesses and mainly in staple piece where we find some easy solutions, logical leaps and excesses.
The latter mainly concern the excessively powerful character of Esther who feel that from a point too loaded with ' evil ' overcoming the physiological limits. Can't a person as smart and if he is doing so much and even under the noses of others with such conviction. The screenwriter had to show a little restraint here. However, we must recognise that the ' Orphan ' rolls quickly without dead spots despite lasting 2 hours. Inflates the suspense as the minutes pass, constantly playing with our psychology and becomes even more enjoyable when we arrive at the final revelations. The young Isabelle Fuhrman gives an exquisite interpretation as the orphan girl staying memorable and very good are the interpretations of others. Well done!

Rich doses of suspense, inventive finale shocker, great interpretation by Isabelle Fuhrman of orphan malware, good acting.
Some scenario-conveniences and excesses that could certainly be avoided.
