Let's Scare Jessica to Death-the secret of the Lake (1971)

After the death of her father, Jessica is a patient in a mental institution. After 6 months leave the institution, calm now and with her partner deciding to leave New York and move to a farm they bought recently in the countryside. With them comes and their friend Woody. When you arrive at the estate, they find a strange girl to be installed there, Emily, from which eventually ask to stay with them. Since their arrival, Jessica begins to experience strange situations, like to see shadows and hear sounds. Tries of course to not give importance but the situation becomes more and more strange and Jessica begins to believe that mad again. Or maybe not?

Something is after Jessica. Something very cold, very wet... and very dead... / Leave your insanity at the door.

A masterpiece, forgotten and cast aside that deserves a place among the well-established and classic horror films. Excellent direction, unique interpretations, extremely, impressive landscapes and incredibly eerie and frightening atmosphere. The scene where the protagonists arrive in the countryside with a hearse and a stop at the cemetery to "revolutionize" Jessica plans from their graves are simply superb. Without the classic jump scares, with great music, without the unnecessary scenes of nudity that we're used to exist in horror movies in recent decades, the film manages to shudders and frighten viewers with its simplicity. Rightly, therefore, the 1970s is considered the golden age of horror.

Horror Trivia

When they arrived at the site, the crew of the film, in the region spread a strange mist which, of course, took advantage. So did the home side's spin and used it whenever they felt that it was necessary for the movie.

The interpretations of two women is shocking. The Lambert Zohra is compelling in the role of Jessica. Convinces perfectly for a woman who has psychological problems and skillfully moves between logic and paranoia. But the one who steals the show, in my opinion, is the Mariclare Costello who played Emily the strange. Her gaze, posture, her whole aura, enchant and haunt the Viewer. Course conclusions about what really happens is at the discretion of each viewer. Truth or lies what events happen, paranoia or sensible?

Movie Review Highlights

Are many but would "betray" only two.
