Deadlight – Survival Horror Video Game (2012)
Sidescroller, cinematic platformer, survival horror
Microsoft Studios, Deep Silver
Xbox 360, Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
The game is the creation of Tequila Works and released in 2012 from the Microsoft Xbox 360 console for Studios and PCs with Microsoft Windows. By 2016 but is available by Deep Silver and the (proposed) Director's Cut version for One Xbox and PlayStation 4 which contains updated graphics, improved handling, new animations and a new Survival mode "Arena" where the player must survive for as long as most can against zombies.
Basically it is another game survival horror themed Zombie Apocalypse but with an important difference: it is platform game with 2, 5D graphics where player moves anti-clockwise and clockwise by performing all the actions in this way. As in many survival horror in Deadlight the character handles the player can walk, run, Crouch, jump off walls, to climb while occasionally indulging in more complex actions such as examining corpses and activating switches.
The style that promotes the game is more avoiding zombies – here they are called Shadows – despite the battle against them. So if the player is unable to find a safe spot to hide can use restricted weapons (axe, revolver, carbine) to confront the zombies. The puzzle solving to avoid zombies is another exciting piece of play.
Generally the Deadlight is a fun experience but certainly not block as originally expect. The short duration, the simplicity of the story and the lack of action-rich compared to other survival horror leave an unfinished, bittersweet taste with the sweet is certainly more intense. And there friends of the old platform games you may like it more if and repetitive movements on platform design can give the feeling of monotonias in some. However, ambient and dark game like need IE for the category you represent.
