The Italian Umberto Lenzi in over-and multi-dimensional filmic career has created many low-budget films. Spaghetti westerns, police and military films, infamous horror films with cannibals, but also some giallo. The "Eyeball" 1975 is one of the most famous and especially those of giallo Director even if not the best.
The Lenzi puts his story in magnificent Barcelona. Tourist giallo? We could say so. As in all giallo, and so on "Eyeball" there is the paranoid killer with a hidden identity by urging the audience to divination exercises for who he is. The Lenzi seems to have pitched well his movie despite some exaggerations, scenario-based facilities and backsliding that here and there can occur. At first everybody suspected but eventually the list of suspects is narrowing as a a tourists murdered and others were elsewhere at the time of the crime, thus obtaining a solid alibi in sight. To keep your interest up to the end Lenzi has placed too many potential perpetrators and that testifies to some weakness on his part. Of course let's not forget that we are not talking about someone Maitre kind such as Mario Bava and Dario Argento, which is why I do not have the requirement for best story in giallo from him. However, the ' Eyeball ' at the end to win and let's not get excited. Interpretations move into normal moderate levels of most giallo. Often the images from Barcelona accompanied by relaxing music while not missing completely bare shots that along with a few lesbian undertones are the only elements light sleaze.
- The eye xerizwmata is the main highlight of "Eyeball" with regard to the killing. Murder in the train of terror stand out from the others for the creepy Visual of spectacle. The victim is murdered when the camera constantly switches between shots of terrifying false figures which adorn the attraction. Nice idea.
